More than just a kitchen

In times past kitchens were locked away 'mysterious places' where food was prepared and served, since the early 1980's the kitchen has very much become the heart of most homes.

A place to dine, entertain, cook and chat, the kitchen is now for certain at the heart of most of our homes.

Kitchen design has changed a lot in the last few decades seeing shifts toward and away from various different trends, colours and finishes. In the past kitchens were almost always designed around the function of cooking, ergonimics of the distance between zones, how often would you need to walk back and forth from the sink to the hob and the hob to the fridge or cupboards. For instance some people have a passion for outside activities, so they now look for a boot room or 'bootility' a space that combines the best attributes of both a utility and a boot room.

With food prices on the rise and becoming often scarce, some people have a desire to store more none perishables goods, so we see the 'old fashioned' pantry becoming popular once again. For those who don't remember a pantry, this is a small room or large cupboard in a house, usually near the kitchen, where food is kept.

Working from home online is much more popular than ever and sure to become even more popular in the coming years too. So the kitchen often needs a place to sit and work, either an area that doubles as a desk in the day and dining space in the evening or a dedicated desk space so you can work, watch children and cook all at the same time.

All these extra stresses on our kitchen space can often lead to compromises beyond the scope of our smaller UK kitchens. Making the kitchen space not only difficult to cook in but a nightmare for all who use it.
